Bank of Canada Keeps Interest Rate At The Same 1%! CTV NEWS

Last week,  Bank of Canada has announced that it is keeping the prime interest rate at the current 1%. The announcement that came in the wake of stronger than expected 2013 first-quarter economic growth, has showed an increasing confidence in the rest of the year growth, expecting it to remain in alignment with the bank's forecast.  

Calgary Residential Resale Prices Break Records In May! Calgary Herald

May turned out to be a very strong month for real estate market in Calgary as the total residential sales of 2,543 (up 6.80 per cent from last year) hit new records with an average resale price of $462,161 and median resale price of $406,500, up 3.85% and 4.23% respectively from May last year! In the single family home category, prices also surpassed the previous March records of this year with an average single family home price of $521,887, up 4.03%  than May 2012, and a median price that increased by 4.24% over May last year  to reach a new high of $454,400!

Expected Growth For Home Prices In Calgary  – Calgary Herald 

In Calgary, that is listed as a balanced market by the Conference Board of Canada, the prices for resale homes are expected to grow between 5 and 6.9 % in the short term year-over-year basis. Listings in Calgary declined 1.6 %, while seasonally-adjusted annual rate of sales remained at the same level with 28,548 sold units.  In April 2013 the average sale price jumped to $423,917, increasing by 4.6% over April last year!

Once again Calgary ranked high for sustainability, securing the 10th place in the top ten list of the quarterly publication Corporate Knights, the magazine that evaluates 20 North American smart cities based on many factors such as environmental quality, economic growth,  social well-being, governance, infrastructure and energy. City officials in Calgary who welcomed the news were not surprised "we are very advanced and progressive in the lifestyle that we provide to our citizens.” Ald. Andre Chabot said, “we consistently rank fairly high, which is good — we must be doing something right,” 

Memorial Drive "Landscape of Memory"  Phase Two To Open Next Month - CREB now

Phase two of the Landscape of Memory, known as Poppy Plaza is scheduled to open on June 8th to salute and pay homage to all citizens who have contributed to protect freedom and security in Canada. This redevelopment,  located at 1111 Memorial Drive NW with a cost of 31.5 million, is focusing on "the  themes of remembrance, legacy and history," as Ward 7 Alderman Druh Farrell said, that will provide at the same time " important public spaces for Calgarians to enjoy.”
