Mahogany CalgaryLooks like things aren't slowing down in the outstanding southeast lake community of Mahogany, which led all in applications for single-family home building permits in 2014 in Calgary. According to the city's planning department, the community had 557 permit applications last year.

Interestingly as Mahogany continues its build out, there were 38% more permits issued in 2014 than in 2013, showing just how popular the neighbourhood is for Calgarians looking to build new homes in the master-planned Hopewell community.

People looking to live in Mahogany, which is east of 52 St. SE, immediately south of Stony Trail SE., have a pretty wide variety of homes to choose from if they're looking for a new single-family home including homes with lanes, rear or front attached garages and luxury estate homes, some of which are lakefront. Construction in the community began back in 2009 and now there are some 4,000 residents living there and enjoying the lake lifestyle.

Hopewell Residential recently announced the sale of 22 lots that make up the Mahogany Island Collection, which features homes situated on a private island in the middle of the lake. Homes will be custom built estate residences with private docks. These homes will be on larger lots in a variety of architectural styles including Coastal, French Country, Arts & Crafts as well as Shingle, which will harken to oceanfront homes. The collection is the first of two that will become part of Mahogany's landscape.

Builders in Mahogany include some of Calgary's finest including Jayman MasterBuilt, Calbridge,Stepper Custom Homes, Sabal by Hopewell, Homes by Avi, and Morrison Homes.

Mahogany opened four show home parades last year. After launching in 2009, the community now has more than 4,000 residents.

In terms of single-family building permits in 2014, Evanston, located in the northwest, had the second most permit applications. Other communities with many permits were the lake community of Auburn Bay (457 permits), Nolan Hill(415 permits) and Cranston (441 permits).
