Lake Bonavista was developed in 1967 as the first community with a man-made lake in Calgary! The developer Keith Construction, a pioneer company that introduced many new and innovative ideas to residential construction, started digging the hole in the ground for the lake even before getting the development permit approval from the city, according to an article in the Calgary Herald!  They were eager to introduce something unexpected  like a "community built around a lake", an idea that proved to be a very loved and popular trend in Calgary afterwards.

Lake Bonavista is located south of Anderson Road that connects MacLeod trail with Deerfoot and provides an easy access to downtown through these two major arteries. The first golf course in Calgary, also developed by Kieth Construction, is a just a few steps away in the adjacent community of Willow Park, and Fish creek park is to the south across Canyon Meadows Drive.
