Fort McMurray fire - before and afterOur neighbours to the north are enduring one of the most difficult challenges they're likely to face; dealing with the Fort McMurray wildfire. One of the largest Alberta fires in over 100 years, this tragedy has resulted in the evacuation of over 80,000 people in this Alberta oil town.

Since Tuesday, May 3, the fire has increased ten fold, currently about the size of Calgary, and it's still not known how the blaze started. 22 water bombers, dozens of helicopters, heavy equipment and over 250 firefighters have had little impact in containing the wildfire that has been fed by dry conditions, warm temperatures and high winds.

As the evacuation areas continue to spread, it's important for our neighbours to know they aren't alone. Cash donations and

Float getting ready for the Auburn Bay ParadeLast Saturday night Auburn Bay held its annual Parade of Lights event and it was a great success. Families lined up along the street on a warm December evening to spread Christmas cheer and bring the community together. A lot of effort went into the floats and the residents, young and old, enjoyed it all.

We were so impressed with the organization and quality of the parade. An event like this doesn't happen by itself. Over 35 people volunteered to work as street marshals, and manning hot chocolate, cookie and craft tables. Not to mention the hours of planning involved to make the parade a success. Having our 2 fantastic community groups working together as a team created phenomenal results

Calgary Ring Road As the price of oil continues to hover around the $US50 mark, there was some talk in January about the province reassessing its capital spending priorities in the face of falling revenues and royalties, and one of the items discussed was cancelling the planned southwest ring road. However Premier Jim Prentice recently told AM770 the project still had the green light.

The southwest leg of the ring road would help create a true circle road around the city, and that section comes with a $5 billion pricetag. In addition, from a Calgary real estate perspective, would pave the way for land development south of the Tsuu T'ina Nation in what is known as the Providence area, which is south of 146 Ave and north of Hwy 22x, west of Bridlewood and Evergreen. Seton, Calgary

It won't be long before Calgarians can venture out into a second downtown thanks to the amazing Seton development. It's a mixed-use, master-planned Southeast community that will become a "trading" area for more than 120,000 people. When it's completed, Seton will rank among the most comprehensive mixed-use developments in North America.

The urban zone will feature commerce, entertainment options, restaurants, parks and nightlife in a vibrant area around the South Calgary Health Campus. Basically it's about bringing a second downtown to Cowtown.

The Seton area, which has the largest solar panel power system in Calgary, encompasses some 165 hectares of space which will become more than a million square feet of professional services, drug stores, liquor
