Last Saturday night Auburn Bay held its annual Parade of Lights event and it was a great success. Families lined up along the street on a warm December evening to spread Christmas cheer and bring the community together. A lot of effort went into the floats and the residents, young and old, enjoyed it all.
We were so impressed with the organization and quality of the parade. An event like this doesn't happen by itself. Over 35 people volunteered to work as street marshals, and manning hot chocolate, cookie and craft tables. Not to mention the hours of planning involved to make the parade a success. The long awaited recreation centre in Calgary's new urban district of Seton is close to breaking ground. Looks like things aren't slowing down in the outstanding southeast lake community of Mahogany, which led all in applications for single-family home building permits in 2014 in Calgary. According to the city's planning department, the community had 557 permit applications last year.
Interestingly as Mahogany continues its build out, there were 38% more permits issued in 2014 than in 2013, showing just how popular the neighbourhood is for Calgarians looking to build new homes in the master-planned Hopewell community.
