Alternative Housing - Chinese Style

Alternative housing choices during these tough economic times has become a reality all across the globe. In North America more and more homeowners are downsizing, and developers are building smaller homes as the old days of the McMansions goes by the wayside. In China, people are heading for the hills, with over 30 million residents making their homes in caves in the Shanxi, Henan and Gansu regions.

Not just a "hole in the wall," these caves have been fashioned out of cliff sides, have arched ceilings, large windows, skylights, and in some cases over 40 rooms. Some of these larger models are rented out as apartments. They have natural air conditioning in the summer, are warm in the winter, and have no stairs to

Although spring is just begin to peek into Calgary, it's time to register your kids for the Epcor Centre's SummerACT program. Designed especially for kids 7-9 and 10-12, the week-long SummerACT program provides fun activities involving music, dance, acting and visual art. Camp is directed by experienced artists and teachers who will help your child acquire and hone new skills in a fun and unique creative environment.

We'd all love to see our kids develop their creativity and self-confidence while learning critical thinking skills in a safe and completely supportive environment. At SummerACT, your child will develop their ability to work with others, culminating in a presentation of their efforts for family and friends at the Epcor Centre.

Calgary Home TeamAlthough the calendar officially still says, “winter,” many Calgarians are taking advantage of spring-like temperatures to get out and enjoy our abundance of area parks and pathways. One of our favorites is Nose Hill Park (5620 14 St. N.W.) in northwest Calgary.

Nose Hill Park was created in 1980, and covers over 11 square kilometres. The hill most likely gets its name from the fact that, by using a little imagination and standing in the right spots, it looks like a nose.

If you want to experience nature without leaving the city, you're sure to appreciate the Rough Fescue grassland in the park; Nose Hill Park contains one of the most significant examples of this grassland ecosystem left on the Canadian prairies. From the park's plateau, there are
