Float getting ready for the Auburn Bay ParadeLast Saturday night Auburn Bay held its annual Parade of Lights event and it was a great success. Families lined up along the street on a warm December evening to spread Christmas cheer and bring the community together. A lot of effort went into the floats and the residents, young and old, enjoyed it all.

We were so impressed with the organization and quality of the parade. An event like this doesn't happen by itself. Over 35 people volunteered to work as street marshals, and manning hot chocolate, cookie and craft tables. Not to mention the hours of planning involved to make the parade a success. Having our 2 fantastic community groups working together as a team created phenomenal results

The Calgary Stampede officially gets underway this year on July 4, and when it does, the city goes from hard-working oil and gas town to boot-stomping party central - big time! If you're looking for a fun place to have a few drinks and get into the Stampede spirit, here is our list of the best Stampede Bars in Calgary (in no particular order).

Ranchmans (9615 Macleod Trail SW)

Easily recognized as Calgary's most iconic country bar, Ranchmans definitely kicks it up a few notches during the Stampede. They open up a massive party tent with two patios and the drinks flow. 2014 Calgary Stampede Breakfasts, Caravan Committee

The Calgary Stampede caravan committee is a group of behind-the-scenes enthusiastic volunteers who put on many of the Calgary Stampede Breakfasts the city is so well known for. Stampede Breakfasts have been a major part of the Stampede celebrations for the past 85 years. So with this year's Stampede running July 4-13, 2014, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at where and when people can get their free pancake breakfasts. In addition to the food, there is always good entertainment at the Caravan breakfasts as well. And they are on come rain or shine. Unless noted, all breakfasts are open from 9 am - 11 am.

July 3: CBC Building (1745 Westmount Blvd. N.W.), 7-9 am.

July 4: Allstream (303-9 Ave. S.E.), 8-10:30 am, first 2,000 people.

Better to be underrated than overrated, right? Well it looks like Calgary's doing alright after CNN International named the Stampede City one of its 10 most underrated cities in the world.

Calgary real estate

CNN has got Calgary nestled in there alongside world-class cities like Queens, NY., Bergen, Norway, and Lisbon, Portugal. We can't help but agree with the good folks at CNN: Calgary, with its western heritage, is definitely an underrated city.

Where else in the world does a city host a 10-day party complete with 10-gallon cowboy hats, rodeos, chuckwagons and plenty of cold beer to wash it all down? And don't forget the pancake breakfasts! Yes, the Calgary Stampede is one reason the Stampede City is on CNN's list.

Calgary is the gateway to the Rockies and some of
