Happy HaloweenBooo.....It's Halloween again! Haunted houses in Calgary are set up to welcome trick-or-treaters, all dressed up in ghoulish costumes, and ready to have fun! For a safe and enjoyable event, here are some tips from CBC news that we have found useful for all parents to read:

  • With the weather getting colder in Autumn, buying a bigger size costume, that allows room for layers of warm clothing underneath it, is highly recommended! Halloween is all about costumes and wearing a heavy coat will spoil much of the kids fun!  Also, avoid any tripping hazard by making sure no part of the costume is too long and dragging behind them. 
  •  While masks are very popular in Halloween, they pose a safety issue by limiting the peripheral vision. Parents should choose

New Brighton market reportResidential sales activity in New Brighton by the end of the third quarter of 2012 continues to rise with 199 total sold units, compared to 129 in 2011, and 128 in 2010. 

  • Single Family Home sales reached 166 sold units between January and September 2012, with an average sold price of $390,988, and a median sold price of $395,000, compared to 107 sold single family homes in the first nine months of 2011, that have an average sold price of $381,792, and a median sold price of $389,000.

Calgary Luxury Homes Calgary real estate continues to shine in 2012 following many encouraging reports from different resources that all paint a rosy picture when it comes to the future of the housing market in the province. With the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) recent expectation of Alberta to lead the nation's real estate growth in 2013, it was no surprise when the latest news from the luxury homes market attested to the upward movement in the housing sales activity in the province!

Calgary Homes for Sale Housing starts in the Calgary area have increased over last year, according to the latest report released from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

The CMHC is reporting 1,012 total housing starts in Calgary for September, 25% up from the 810 in September of last year. The Single Family Homes' share reached 514 new builds, an increase from the same period last year, that saw 417 starts; followed by the Condo/Townhouse development,  with 471 new units breaking the ground, compared to 393 in September last year.  

Between January and September 2012,  the Calgary Census Metropolitan Area saw 10,002 total housing starts, a significant 59% increase over the same time period last year, with 6,325 starts. “With our province, and ultimately our

  • Auburn Bay Real Estate Market Report  September 2012 CalgaryTotal residential sales in Auburn Bay by the end of 2012 third quarter reached 148 sold units, a 38% increase over the 107 sales during the same period last year.
  • The Single Family Home share was 134 sold units with an average sold price of $454,664, and a median sold price of $450,000, compared to 101 sold single family homes in the first nine months of 2011, that have average and median sold prices of $468,949, and $430,000 respectively.
  • Condo/Townhouse sold units during the same period of 2012 totaled 14 sales, more than double the 6 units sold in 2011. The 14 sold condos/townhouses in Auburn Bay changed hands with an average sold price of $284,774 compared to $214,466 in 2011, and a median sold price that increased to $300,932 from the $220,450

Calgary real estate statistics September 2012Boosted by decreasing home ownership costs and strong provincial economic growth that were accompanied by falling unemployment rate and improving consumers' confidence, Calgary real estate sales continue to rise in the third quarter of 2012, defying a national housing market trend.

Compared to last year, the 17,018 total residential sales after the first three quarters of the year revealed a 15% improvement in sales growth in Calgary, with "no indication that market is poised for a correction, " according to CREB's latest regional housing market report. Calgary saw a total of 1,617 properties changing hands in September 2012, up 11% from the 1,461sold units reported in the same month last year.
