Calgary home price indexCalgary new housing Price Index showed an increase of 2.3% in July 2012 on a year- over-year basis, according to Statistics Canada's latest report. The same percentage of 2.3%  was recorded on the national level, with the highest in Regina that rose by 4.7%  over July last year, followed by Toronto and Oshawa, both 4.6%.  

This increase in the Calgary new housing price index was mainly linked to the higher costs in materials and labour, with Calgary Metropolitan Area (CMA) being "the top contributor to the advance," as indicated in the Calgary Herald. Housing starts in the Calgary Metropolitan Area reached 910 in July 2012, a 38 % increase from the 658 units in July 2011,  while total housing starts between January and July 2012 were 7,954 units, a

Calgary real estate Market ReportCalgary Total Residential Sales are 9% higher in August 2012 with 1,730 sold units compared to 1,572 in August 2011. “While the sales grow remains strong, it is slower than previous five months in part due to the lack of new listings in the City’s single family market,” said Bob Jablonski, CREB®President. “With fewer products to choose from, many consumers are holding off on transacting or turning to surrounding towns, the new home market and condominiums.”

Calgary Single Family Home Sales reached 1,172 units in August 2012, compared to 1,104 units sold in August 2011.

Single Family Home Sales between January and August 2012 were 11,126, compared to 9,480 sales over the same period last year.
